Announcing The Rotary Foundation District 6000 Endowment for the Future #E21626

The Rotary Foundation (TRF) District 6000 endowment for the Future has been created. Endowment funds protect and invest the money donated and uses the income from those investments to fund Rotary’s good works. A special component of endowment funds is that the donated funds continue to create income in perpetuity, benefiting Rotary and District 6000 forever.

How does this work? A donation into our District 6000 Endow SHARE account #E21626 is pooled with the rest of the donations made into that account. While that money is invested and protected from spending, income from that account is divided between TRF World Fund and District Designated Funds (DDF). The World Fund provides general support within Rotary wherever the need is greatest. DDF is used here in District 6000 to support local community grant projects as well as Global Grants. Supporting our District 6000 Endowment for the Future #E21626 is the best way to provide continued support for local projects. If you want to contribute be sure to include the number E21626. You can use this FORM or make an online contribution HERE (select NAMED FUND and enter E21626).

This Rotary year our district received nearly $40,000 from previous gifts to endowments. Those funds supported our club's community grants, gifting 100 books to a school library in Boone, funding beds for Sleep in Heavenly Peace in Ankeny and helping to fund a Life Skills Program for Special Education Students in Chariton.

The endowment fund, which allows donors to leave a lasting impact through outright gifts and estate planning, ensures that Rotary can continue its humanitarian work in perpetuity. Contributions to the endowment are invested, and a portion of the earnings is used each year to support Rotary programs.

“The endowment represents Rotary’s commitment to future generations,” said John Hewko, General Secretary of Rotary International. “Through the foresight and generosity of our donors, we are ensuring that critical programs addressing pressing global challenges will not only survive but thrive.”

Global Impact Through Long-Term Investment

Each year, earnings from the endowment fund fuel a range of programs, including:

  • Polio Eradication: Supporting efforts to immunize children and eliminate polio worldwide.
  • Peacebuilding: Funding Rotary Peace Fellowships that train individuals in conflict resolution and leadership.
  • Sustainable Development: Backing grants for water and sanitation, maternal health, education, and economic development.

In 2023 alone, the Foundation distributed over $400 million in grants and awards, touching lives in over 130 countries.

Donors and Innovation

The Rotary Foundation has attracted significant contributions from individuals, corporate partners, and legacy gifts. Innovative approaches to endowment management, such as impact investing, have also enhanced the fund’s growth.

“Donors can choose to designate their gifts to specific causes, making their contributions deeply personal and impactful,” noted Carol Pandak, Director of PolioPlus at the Rotary Foundation.

A Call to Action

Rotarians and supporters worldwide are encouraged to contribute to the endowment through outright gifts, bequests, and other planned giving options. The Foundation provides resources to help donors navigate estate planning and offers recognition through programs like the Legacy Society and Bequest Society.

As Rotary International approaches its 120th anniversary in 2025, the endowment serves as a testament to the organization’s enduring dedication to making a difference. With its steady growth, the Rotary Foundation endowment is not just a financial asset—it is a promise of hope, resilience, and service to humanity.
